Good to know in Heerhugowaard
- A growth town from the 1970s and 1980s. Heerhugowaard grew fast from the late 1970s, starting with the Edelstenenwijk. The largest group of homes in the town dates from 1970 to 1980, and most are terraced houses. Many of those homes are now on their second or third boiler, and older radiators and valves are often due for replacement at the same time.
- The HVC heat network. Heerhugowaard has a heat network run by HVC, fed by its bio-energy plant in Alkmaar. In 2022, 500 rental homes in Rivierenwijk-Zuid swapped their gas boilers for it. If you own a home in a street that is being connected, check the plans before you replace your boiler.
- Insulation subsidy. Dijk en Waard pays up to €1,400 towards insulating a poorly insulated owner-occupied home. Check the current conditions in the regulation. Better insulation also lets a boiler run at lower temperatures, which is where it’s most efficient.
- Water and pipes. PWN supplies the water. Its water is soft, so limescale in the boiler is less of a worry. Lead drinking-water pipes only turn up in homes built before 1960, so they are worth checking in the older village centres.

Boiler replacements are quoted as a fixed price after I have assessed the job. A standard CW4 installation is typically €1,995-€2,495 incl. BTW, with the full scope confirmed in writing. See the prices page for the other installation options.
