# A service contract or a one-off visit?

A maintenance contract can be useful, but it depends on what you're buying. A routine service and a plan with breakdown cover are different things. Compare the cover you need, as well as the monthly price.

## What does a one-off service cost?

A boiler service with me is **€145 incl. BTW plus materials**. You book the visit when maintenance is due, without signing up to a subscription.

The appropriate interval depends on the boiler’s instructions, condition and warranty terms. It should be chosen for the appliance. ## What should I check in a contract?

| Check              | Why it matters                                                    |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Service interval   | Monthly payments do not necessarily mean an annual visit          |
| Breakdown labour   | It may be included, limited or charged separately                 |
| Replacement parts  | Check exclusions, annual limits and excess charges                |
| Call-out charges   | Ask what is payable when something stops working                  |
| Availability       | Telephone support and an engineer arriving are different promises |
| Initial inspection | There may be conditions or repairs before cover starts            |
| Contract term      | Check the minimum term, renewal and cancellation process          |

Read the current provider’s terms. Package names and headline prices alone won’t tell you the whole cost.

## Compare the same period

Multiply the monthly payment by twelve for the yearly cost. If servicing is every two years, look at twenty-four months and compare that with maintenance at the correct interval for your boiler.

Use prices on the same VAT basis and include any inspection fees, parts and excess charges. If a contract includes breakdown cover, allow for the value of that cover too. A maintenance-only visit does not replace it.

## When might a contract suit you?

A contract may suit you if you value a defined breakdown service, want to spread the cost or prefer the provider to manage the maintenance schedule. Check what response is actually promised and which faults and parts are covered.

A one-off service may suit you if you prefer to arrange maintenance directly and pay separately for repairs when needed. There isn’t one right answer for every home.

## What do I offer?

I provide planned [boiler servicing](https://www.englishplumber.nl/services/boiler-servicing/) and can assess faults and quote for repairs. A fault visit is €135 incl. BTW, with no call-out charge, small parts included, and a bigger repair gets a fixed price before I start. Maintenance plans are available on request — ask me.

Visits are booked by appointment. I don’t offer a 24-hour emergency response. If guaranteed out-of-hours cover matters to you, check that the contract you are considering specifically provides it.

## Before changing your arrangement

Check whether your landlord, managing agent or an existing plan already covers the service. If you are leaving a contract, confirm its end date and cancellation terms so you know when responsibility changes.

Do I need a contract to book you?

No. You can book a one-off boiler service at €145 incl. BTW plus materials.

Is a contract always cheaper?

It depends on the price, service interval and breakdown cover. Compare the full cost over the same period, including VAT, fees and exclusions.

Do all contracts include replacement parts?

Check the particular package. Parts may be excluded or subject to limits, excess charges and other conditions.

Do you offer a 24-hour breakdown service?

No. I arrange visits by appointment and can tell you my availability when you enquire. A one-off service is separate from emergency cover.
